Webmaster Benignus has been chrismated by Saint George the Martyr Orthodox Church with Constantine as his Christian name, named for one of his favorite saints, Emperor Constantine the Great. He was attracted to the Orthodox Church for various reasons such as his interests in History, Music, and Art, but mainly because he found their doctrine to be the most Historical. A contributing factor in his journey was his distaste for Commercialized Christianity, where "Blessings" were dispensed as according to the size of a financial contribution, which is but a repetition of the Doctrinal Errors which supported the Sale of Indulgences. Indeed, the Early Church had similar problems, as the New Testament covers an incident of Simony, and the the Second Century training manual entitled Didache uses the word "Christ Peddler" to condemn False Teachers. Orthodoxy originally gained his attention and respect thirty years ago when he had questions about Free Will and Predestination, finding that the Orthodox Church had the most satisfactory and comprehensive answers. A comparison for Revelation 22:19  between Calvin's Geneva Bible and other Bibles (such as the Amplified Bible or the King James Bible) was most insightful. He has often referred to them as "The Historian's Church",  although the food section of this web page would lead one to believe that the Orthodox Church is also "The Chef's Church". Many scholars have become converts because of their Search for the Historic Church. He was impressed by their adherence to the Seven Great Church Councils, including the Council of Nicea  (see Priest's Page) of 325 AD, which he considers to be an early exercise of Constitutional Government in Western Civilization. The Church Councils were composed of the Legitimate Authorities on Doctrine, whose purpose was to resolve Theological Controversies with binding decisions. He also found the Orthodox Church to be the most open about the compilation of the Bible, not mincing words about the criteria of St. Irenaeus to use the Most Often Used Texts of the Oldest Churches to determine the Cannon.  It took several years for him to appreciate the Orthodox Church, starting some 30 years ago when he took college courses on the Renaissance,  the Reformation, and the Dark Ages. The Early Church was his focal point, and the Byzantine Empire, the part of the Roman Empire that survived the longest, was his chief interest. It must be noted here that many who study the Early Church are attracted to Orthodoxy.  As a former Hussite, he had long suspected that the early Protestant leader Jan Hus had planned reversion to Orthodoxy, and has found confirmation of this fact (the modern expression of this being the Czech Orthodox Church) in the development of this page. As a result of his research for this web page, he came to respect this church, and considers it a privilege to do Webmaster work for an Orthodox Church.
